About "Urbana"

A Little Bit of History...

The first pioneers settled this area in 1840 and it was originally known as Hoosiers Point. In 1847, the town of Marysville was laid out. A short time later Hoosiers Point, Marysville and Manatheka, an Indian term ‘meaning a place to trade’ were combined. There had been many conflicts with the US mail and so the government named the combined town Urbanna. In 1880 the second ‘n’ was dropped and it became the present day Urbana.

Urbana is a ‘friendly, forward looking community with a lot of pride and a good place to live’!
