EDUCATION K - 12

Urbana combined school systems with the neighboring town of Center Point. Together the towns provide a dynamic school system that offers a quality, small town learning environment. To accommodate growth, our community passed a bond issue to build a new elementary school and additional classrooms for the middle school. Visit the Stormin' Pointers School Page.

CENSUS INFORMATION

"Firefighters in training"

EMERGENCY SERVICES:

We are proud to have our own thirty-five man volunteer Fire Department that services all of Polk Township and offers mutual aid to neighboring communities. Our Fire Department has active Junior Fire- fighters and a Women’s Auxiliary. Water ball fights provide competitive fun and training for all.

The City of Urbana works closely with Polk Township to ensure the emergency services are equipped and trained to respond instantly, safely, and effectively.

Urbana has an established volunteer Ambulance Service which covers all of Polk Township. The Urbana Ambulance Service was the first in Benton County to provide automatic defibrillator service.

Four part-time Police Officers patrol the Urbana area. A low crime rate affords time for the officers to become a familiar presence to our children and their families.

Urbana added a new water tower in 1994, and a new waste water treatment system in 1996 to accommodate development within the City limits. All land within City limits has been zoned by the Planning and Zoning Commission. The Urbana City Council, the Planning and Zoning, and the Board of Adjustment have worked together to create a General Development /Community Builder plan.

By working with Benton County, water and sewer have been made available to a 725 acre Tax Increment Finance District (TIF) called the Benton Commerce Village, that extends from within City limits into the County. The convenience of transportation routes and the availability of developable land within Benton Commerce Village makes this an ideal spot to locate a commercial, retail or industrial business.
