GAZEBO AND BRICK WALK
The Ringsted Community established a City Beautification Memorial Fund in 1997. An anonymous donation by a nonresident initiated the fund in anticipation of developing a project that would benefit the Ringsted community. The donation was in memory of the donor's relative, Jackie Underwood, daughter of Herb & Charlotte Underwood of Omaha, NE; granddaughter of Ringsted resident, Lillian Riedel.

The idea for this fund as stated by the donor is "To create an opportunity for people and groups who care and love Ringsted to donate money, materials and talents to establish a long term project for the benefit of the community." To do this, a committee was set up by the City of Ringsted and plans began for a gazebo to be built where the Opera House used to be. The style of the gazebo was designed after the 100 year old gazebo in Ringsted, Denmark. Much support helped to get this project completed before the Centennial Celebration in June, 1999.

Also a Brick Walk was established. At this time there have been 400 bricks and granite pavers purchased that are placed at the Brick Walk in front of the gazebo and also placed around the World War I Monument in memorial of family and loved ones. The money received from purchase of these bricks and pavers helped with the new park equipment installed at Railroad Park in 2002 and the upkeep of the Gazebo.

If you would like to purchase a brick or paver in honor of your family, business, class, or a memorial for a loved one, please contact City Hall and they will send you an order form. Phone and Fax: 712-866-0877. Email: ctyhall@netins.net.

Weddings to family reunions to city events have been held in our gazebo. Many tourists stop to view the brick walk. The City of Ringsted is very proud of their gazebo project and the new park equipment. From the sale of the bricks new projects will be underway to benefit the community.
