LOCATION:
Lawton is located 8 miles east of Sioux City, IA on Highway 20.

TELEPHONE COMPANY:
Western Iowa Telephone Association is a member-owned cooperative providing telecommunications services to eleven rural communities in northwest Iowa. Local exchange service is provided to 3,300 customers from eight digitally-switched exchanges. All interoffice and long distance connections are provided over a fiber optic network, and equal access for long distance services is available to all customers. All buried outside plant provides reliable, high-quality voice and data circuits for business and residential customers.

SCHOOLS:
Lawton-Bronson Community School--K-5 is housed at Bronson, IA and 6-12 is housed at Lawton. Morningside College, Briar Cliff College, and Western Iowa Tech Community College are all just minutes away in Sioux City.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & RECREATION:
There is one small park on Cedar St. with children's play equipment and a picnic table. There is also a Lawton Park Committee that is planning and doing fund-raising for another park in the new Zenor Addition. This park currently has some play ground equipment. The school has a beautiful outdoor sports complex with football field, track and baseball diamond.

LOCAL LEGENDS & HISTORY:
Prior to 1902 this settlement area was known as Truxton. A family by the name of Law owned most of the property on which the town was established. As a condition of the sale of the property, the town was to be re-named Lawton. After the sale of property was finalized the town of Lawton was established in 1902 and incorporated in 1907.

ANNUAL TOWN ACTIVITIES:
The FAMILY (Fathers and Mothers Interested in Lawton Youth) Group has a Summer Barbeque in August to raise money to sponsor an annual Easter Egg Hunt, Santa Claus, and a Halloween Party for the small children and a Haunted House. There is also an annual Tour of Homes fundraiser sponsored by the Dancing Granny's and Grandpa's to help with the remodeling of the Senior Center.

REAL ESTATE:
There is a new housing development on the east side of Lawton.

CHURCHES:
Bethel Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod), The Rev. Bruce Jackson, Pastor; Community Presbyterian Church.

BRAGGING RIGHTS:
The Dancing Grannys & Grandpas perform tap dance routines at area nursing homes and at many other events. They also sponsor Lawton's Little Prince and Princess Contest. Other organizations include American Legion and Legion Auxiliary, the Banner Planners 4-H club, the Lawton Garden Club, Variety Club, UTD Club, Lawton Saddle Club, & FAMILY.
