Grand River is located in south central Iowa, 20 minutes south of Osceola, exit off Interstate 35, eight miles west on J20, and 7 miles north off highway 2.

Grand River and Kellerton are currently the consolidated district Grand Valley Community Schools. Grand Valley Elementary, with a student population of 76, is located in Kellerton. The district has whole-grade sharing agreements for grades 7 - 12 with Mount Ayr Community Schools (currently 49 Grand Valley students), Lamoni Community Schools (20 Grand Valley students). The area is served by Green Valley Area Education Agency 14. Graceland College at Lamoni, Southwestern Community College at Creston.
