LOCATION:
Archer is located in northwest Iowa, 5 miles east and 5 miles south of Sheldon in O'Brien County. We are 5 miles south of Highway 18 on County Blacktop L40. We are located in a highly productive farming area and have a strong agriculturally based economy.

UTILITIES:
Archer is served by the C-M-L Telephone Cooperative, Ass'n. with very modern, up-to-date services.

Natural gas and electricity are provided by Midwest Power/Midwest Gas.

Good quality water is available from Osceola County Rural Water System Inc.

Garbage service is contracted by the city to a private hauler with weekly pickup and twice weekly during the summer months. All residents pay a quarterly garbage fee and the balance of the expense is paid by the City.

SCHOOLS:
Archer is part of the Sheldon Community School District and our children are transported by bus to Sheldon, a distance of 10 miles from Archer. Three four-year colleges are located within 25 miles of Archer.

CHURCHES:
We have two protestant churches located in Archer and Catholic churches are located in several surrounding cities.

RECREATION:
We have a lighted ball diamond, sand volleyball court, outdoor basketball court, and a picnic area including playground equipment, two shelter houses, barbecue grills and tables. Our Community Center includes a full sized gym, racquetball court and indoor volleyball equipment.

COMMUNITY CENTER:
Our Community Center was formerly the Archer Consolidated School building. In addition to a full sized gym and racquetball court, it includes a Centennial Room for public and private meetings, and the Public Library. Dinner Date meals are served once a week in the Center. The Center and grounds are governed by a seven-person board made up of citizens of Archer and the surrounding community who work under the supervision of the City Council.

PUBLIC LIBRARY:
Our library, located in the Community Center, is supported by local and county funding. It is managed by a library board appointed by the City Council, and our librarian is on duty two days each week. We have a selection of 5500 books as well as magazines and videos that may be checked out.

EMERGENCY SERVICES:
Fire protection is provided by our volunteer fire department of 12 members. We have 4 vehicles and are well equipped.

Our ambulance team is well-equipped and well-trained. We have one ambulance available at all times.

We do not have a doctor in Archer but several doctors and two hospitals are located within 10 miles of Archer.

Law enforcement is provided by the O'Brien County Sheriff's Office.

CITY GOVERNMENT:
Archer is governed by a mayor and five council members elected alternate years by the voting citizens of Archer.

COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS:
Commercial opportunities are limited as in most small towns. We have a Coop Grain Co., post office, cafe, bank, home improvement business, two repair shops, beautician, and a building contractor.

MISCELLANEOUS:
We are particularly proud of the relationship between the city and the surrounding community. When we think of Archer, we include the rural residents who share in a fine spirit of cooperation. Much that is accomplished here includes volunteer service by the residents of Archer and the surrounding farming community.
