Ask E-Bob!

Maggie from Long Grove asks:

How do I setup my e-mail to use Outlook Express as my default mail client?

Answer
First, let's define what a default mail program is. The default mail client is the program that opens when you click a link in another application to send a mail message, for example, when you click on a mailto link. If you click on that, your default mail client will launch with a new message that you can send to eBob.

If you'd like to set Outlook Express as your default mail client, first open it. Once Outlook Express is opened, if it is not the default program it should present you with this box:

If you are presented with this screen and you click YES, then you have set it as your default mail client and you are done. However, if it does not offer this box, you can still set it quite easily.

1. Open Outlook Express

2. Click on the TOOLS menu then on OPTIONS

At the bottom of this page, in our example, it says that this application is not the default. If I click on "Make Default" this sets it as the go-to program for everything mail related.

Click on MAKE DEFAULT, then on OK, and Outlook Express is your Default Mail application.
