Working with E-Mail

In the old system you could use "check boxes" to select multiple e-mails for deletion or other activity.

In the new webmail system you can select a number of e-mails in a row by "Shift-clicking".

To do this: Simply click once on the top e-mail that you want to select.

select one

Then locate the last desired e-mail, scrolling down to it if you need to, and press the Shift key as you click on it. This will "highlight" the e-mails you would like to work with.

select multiple

You can then release the Shift key.

Note: You can also do this in reverse, selecting the bottom e-mail first. What you cannot do is start in the center and select both upward and downward.

Once you have made your selection you can then press the "Ctrl" key as you click once on each file you want to deselect, as shown here.

After you deselect a file if you change your mind, just press "Ctrl" again and click once on that file again to reselect it.

And if you only want to select only a few various e-mails...

Just press the "Ctrl" key and keep it pressed as you click once on each e-mail you want to select.

Then release the Command key when you've got them all.

ctrl

It doesn't matter which e-mail you click first or last.

If you select a e-mail and change your mind, just press Command and click on that file again to deselect it.

Now that you have selected the e-mails you would like to work with you can choose to "Delete", "Move", or "Copy" it.

To Delete a group of messages you have selected, click on the Delete button highlighted in RED below

If you would like to move the group of messages into another folder, click on the Move Into... button highlighted in RED below

If you would like to copy the messages (without removing them from the folder you're in) into another folder, click on the Copy Into... button highlighted in RED below

Comparing Old and New

The folder list is very similar to the previous layout, with the same names on all of the folders. Now instead of showing how many items are in each folder, the number in parenthesis shows the number of unread messages:

oldnew

In addition, layout for working with messages has been condensed and simplified to a single toolbar across the top of the interface:

oldnew1

The new interface will perform the same functions as the previous interface, in a more efficient fashion.

Rules and other settings are in the "Settings" which is accessible by hitting the Settings button at the upper right.

Here you can access your rules in the "Mail Control" section as well as many other options.

Fill out the details of the event and hit Save. If the event repeats itself, you can hit Recurrence and have it set to repeat.

To delete an event, just double-click it and make your changes when the Event window appears.

Instant Messenger

One of the new tools is the Instant Messenger (IM). With this, you can add the e-mail address of a friend or family member with our service and, when logged in at the same time, chat with them in real time.

Right now it looks pretty blank, but it will fill up as you add more Buddies to it. To start, click the small green button in the bottom left corner.

im1

This will open the Buddies window. Type in the full e-mail address of the person you would like to add as well as the name you would like them to show up under on your list, then click Save.

im3

Now the list will have that name on it. There are two categories, "Buddies" and "Offline".

im4

"Buddies" is where you will find your friends that are online right now. If you want to start chatting with them, simply double click their name and it will open a new chat window.

Contacts/Address Book

The address book has gone under some considerable upgrades, allowing you to add more information about a contact than just their email address and name. Now, you can add a contact's address, telephone number(s), as well as a picture. Simply click the Contacts button on the left to access your contacts. To add a new contact, click New and the New Contact window opens.

News

Another new addition to the new Webmail interface is the News section; here you can subscribe to RSS feeds from your favorite websites (as available).

RSSLook for this orange icon on your favorite web sites, then click on it. The address of the page you are taken to is what you enter into the "Add News Feed Source" box below.

Once you have the URL (address) for the feed you want, click Subscribe and you will see the "Add News Feed Source" window open:

address

Once you have added your feed, you will see it in the list on the left with any other feeds you might be subscribed to. Here, you can subscribe and unsubscribe to various feeds, refresh the list (updating the list with the newest content), and mark things as read or unread.

When you click on an article, the link will take you directly to that content provider's web site.
